Richmond woman taking marina to court over Airbnb eviction

A woman has filed a petition in B.C. Supreme Court seeking to stop a management company from evicting her from River’s Bend Marina, and cutting the electricity to her float home.
Ingrid Chen says it’s because she listed her home on Air BnB.
She says the manager of River’s Bend Marina gave her permission to rent her float home though the short term rental site.
“Yeah, he allowed other people to rent out on Air BnB.”
“He says it’s okay to rent occasionally but not too frequently.”
She rented out her home three times in May, but then received an email from the manager.
“We’re receiving complaints that you’re renting too frequently, and this was on my second Air BnB.”
The petition says Chen also had friends and family stay at her home for free.
Chen says she was e-mailed a 48 hour eviction notice on July 3rd.
She says if the power to her float home is cut off, it could cause major damage.
In court documents, the rules and regulations of the marina say ‘the home cannot be used for the purpose of conducting business’.
She insists several other homes on the Marina are being rented through Air BnB.
“I never met the owners but there was different people coming and going. I was told they Air BnB it when they are not around to make extra money.”
The manager of the marina could not be reached for comment.
